Lancaster evening of Russian song

Galina Ismaguilova, a Lancaster-based Russian interpreter and translator, recently hosted an evening of Russian music. Those of us who attended enjoyed delicious food and drink.

Our special guests were accomplished balalaika players Denis Furse and David Lomax from North Wales. After a delicious dinner Denis and David began their musical performance of traditional Russian songs such as: “Heart”, “Dark Eyes”, “Coachman, do not drive the horses” and many others.

As Denis explained, their performances of traditional Russian folk songs began more than 40 years ago in 1968 when they were part of a group of Russian-langiage and culture enthusiasts, led by Alfred Paul. Dennis himself is fluent in Russian, which he studied at the University of Liverpool.

We we would like to sincerely thank everyone, especially Galina, Denis and David for a lovely evening and lots of fun!
